Ferenc Xaver Berke de Nagy-Barkócz ((スロベニア語:Franc Berke) Prekmurian: ''Ferenc Xaver Berke'') (a. 1764 – February 10, 1841) was a Hungarian Slovene Lutheran pastor and writer. Born in Sembiborci (Sebeborci) the son of Janos Berke (1734-1820) and Judita Novák (daughter of nobleman Ferenc Novák). His parents were petty noblemen and belonged to the local gentry. One of the ancestors Ambrosius Berke received the confirmation of the old nobility and privileges in 1609, because the older documents were lost during the war with Turks. In Nemescsó attended the elementary school, by 1778 in Bratislava the Lutheran lyceum. Three years he studied at university in Jena (Germany). He married twice - first noblewoman Elisabeth Posgay, widow of Janos Ringhoffer. After her death he married noblewoman Ana Zsuzsanna Bachich, widow of nobleman Peter Horvath (evangelical pastor in Meszlen, Hungary). Bachich´s father was senior (superintendent) of evangelical congregation in Sopron - Istvan Bachich. None of the two marriages produced children. Berkes younger brother Jozsef Berke (1772-1833) was pastor in Križevci from 1805-1833. Since 1790 he was pastor in Križevci until October 14, 1805, when he became pastor in Puconci and later senior (superintendent) of the evangelical congregation. Berke and Mátyás Godina was published the second issue of the prekmurian New Testament ''Nouvi Zákon'' of István Küzmics.
